Varför och när du behöver sätta WordPress i underhållsläge
Ofta kan du göra ändringar på din WordPress website utan att behöva sätta den i underhållsläge. Du kan till exempel publicera nya posts, update WordPress och installera nya tillägg utan driftstopp.
Ibland kan du dock behöva arbeta med din website under en längre period. Till exempel kanske du vill göra om din WordPress blogg helt och hållet.
Vissa ändringar är också mer riskfyllda än andra, till exempel att installera ett new plugin som ändrar din websites beteende. Medan du gör ändringen kan din site se trasig ut för dina användare.
Du kan till och med förlora data som skapas under den här perioden. Om du till exempel gör stora förändringar i en online store, kan du förlora alla nya orders som customers lägger.
En lösning är att skapa en staging website så att du kan arbeta på din site i avskildhet. Många av de högst upp i WordPress webbhotell erbjuder 1-click staging websites, inklusive Bluehost, SiteGround och WP Engine.
Om du inte använder en staging site bör du istället sätta din website i underhållsläge. Istället för en trasig website kommer besökarna att se en användbar underhållssida som låter dem veta vad som händer.

Efter aktivering, gå till SeedProd ” Pages. I ”Maintenance Mode” section, click on the ”Set up a Maintenance Mode Page” or ”Edit page” button.

De flesta templates har redan några block, som är en core del av all SeedProd design. För att add to fler block till din page, dra dem från menyn till vänster och släpp dem sedan på din design.

Om du till exempel har RafflePress kommer du att kunna run en tävling på din underhållssida med hjälp av Giveaway-blocket, som du kan se i följande image.
För att customize ett block klickar du bara för att selecta det blocket i din layout. Du kan sedan ändra blocket med hjälp av inställningarna i menyn till vänster.
Låt oss till exempel se hur du kan ansluta standardknappen ”Kontakta oss” till din egen email address.
Klicka bara för att välja knappen ”Kontakta oss” i Live preview. I menyn till vänster ser du ett fält för ”Link”, som visar ”mailto:john@example.com” som standard.
Detta innebär att knappen öppnar besökarens standard app för email med fältet ”To” redan ifyllt som ”john@example.com”.
För att ändra detta skriver du helt enkelt in din email address i fältet ”Link”. Se till att du inte tar bort ”mailto:” eftersom detta öppnar besökarens standard app för email.

För att remove ett block från din design, gå bara vidare och click på det. Du kan sedan välja ikonen för trash.

När du är nöjd med hur underhållssidan ser ut är det dags att publicera den genom att clicka på knappen ”Save”.
För att aktivera underhållsläget och visa besökarna din custom underhållssida, gå bara till SeedProd ” Landing Pages i WordPress dashpanelen.
Här klickar du på omkopplaren i sectionen ”Maintenance Mode” så att den visar ”Active”.
Underhållsläget kommer inte att visas för you eftersom du är inloggad på webbplatsen. Men om du besöker din site i en inkognito tabs i webbläsaren så kommer du att se underhållssidan i action.
När du är redo att återlansera din site går du helt enkelt till SeedProd ” Landing Pages. Under ”Maintenance Mode”, click på slidern för att ändra den från grön (Active) till grå (Inaktiverad).
Nu kan vem som helst komma åt din WordPress website.
Controlling Website Access for Logged-in Users (personuppgiftsansvarig för inloggade användare)
Som standard kommer SeedProd att visa sidan för underhållsläge för alla användare som inte är inloggade. Alla som har ett account kommer dock fortfarande att kunna logga in på din site. Till exempel, prenumeranter på din membership site och kunder på din WooCommerce store kan fortfarande komma åt sitt account.
You kanske vill ändra vem som har tillgång till din site medan den är under underhåll. Om du till exempel utvecklar en site för en kund kan de fortfarande behöva åtkomst så att de kan övervaka ditt arbete.

Undanta specifika pages från underhållsläget
SeedProd Pro låter dig också inkludera eller utesluta specifika pages från underhållsläget. Detta är praktiskt om användare behöver tillgång till vissa pages.
Om du till exempel har en customize login page vill du vanligtvis utesluta den från underhållsläget. Om du tillhandahåller customer support via email kanske du också vill utesluta ditt kontaktformulär.

När du är aktiverad går du till Settings ” LightStart.
Du kan nu välja mellan LightStarts underhållsläge, coming soon och landing page templates.
Eftersom vi vill skapa ett underhållsläge klickar du på templaten ”Website is under maintenance” och väljer sedan knappen ”Continue”.
Du kommer nu att ha alternativet att gå med i LightStart email list.
Du kan helt enkelt gå vidare och clicka ”I’ll skip for now, thanks”.
LightStart kommer nu att gå vidare och skapa en enkel page med hjälp av sin built-in template.
För att se denna page, clickar du bara på ”View page”.
Detta öppnar templates i WordPress standard editor för post.

Templatet har några social media placeholders som du vill länka till dina egna pages.
Klicka bara på var och en av dessa icons och skriv sedan in URL:en i det lilla fältet som visas.
När du är nöjd med hur underhållssidan ser ut klickar du på knappen ”Update” i content editor för att save dina ändringar.
Nu när du har designat din page är det dags att konfigurera dina inställningar för underhållsläget genom att gå till Settings ” LightStart i WordPress dashpanelen.

Som standard kan bots från search engines inte se din site när den är i underhållsläge. Detta kan skada din sökmotorsoptimering för WordPress och kan påverka var din site appear i rankingen hos search engine, särskilt om underhållet tar ett tag.
Det är därför vi rekommenderar att du öppnar dropdown ”Bypass for Search Bots” och väljer ”Yes”. Detta kommer att tillåta alla crawlers för search engine att kringgå din underhållssida.
Som site admin kan du komma åt din WordPress dashboard och website när den är i underhållsläge. Du kanske dock vill ge åtkomst till andra roller bland användarna.
Du kan ge användare tillgång till WordPress dashboard genom att öppna dropdown ’Back-end’ och sedan välja en roll från listan.
Om du vill ge besökare tillgång till din offentliga site använder du istället dropdown ”Front-end”.
På samma sätt som SeedProd kan du utesluta vissa pages från underhållsläget så att de alltid är tillgängliga för visitorerna. Om du till exempel har ett bokningsformulär kanske du vill göra denna page available även när resten av din site är nere för underhåll.
För att utesluta en page, add to dess URL i ”Exclude” boxen.
Om du använder Google Analytics för att tracka besökare på din WordPress website, se till att du klickar på tabben ”Modules”.

Så här addar du en chatbot till din Maintenance Mode Page
Chatbots allow you to interact with visitors, record information about them, and even do lead generation in WordPress.

If I turn on maintenance mode with a plugin, will this avoid the problem with the .maintenance file on FTP, for example when updating more plugins? Sometimes it gets created on FTP and then has to be manually removed.

I read that here and tried that. After a solid 2 minutes of nothing happening, I tried with a different browser and still nothing. Thing is its not just my computer that it won’t open on. My phone (not logged in), my room mates computer, and other friends too. Some get a 504 error code. Some get ’safari could’t open bc server stopped responding’ type message.
Any other suggestions?

I am running Dokan and WooCommerce and would like my users (vendors) to be able to upload products even when in maintenance mode? is this possoble or do i have to give them administrator access?

Ideally you would only allow administrators to be able to access admin area during the maintenance mode. However, you can change that if you need.

I’m disappointed by the content. It’s a great article about a plugin, but I found it by searching for ”wordpress enable maintenance mode”. I’m about to upgrade a site to version 4.8, manually. My first step will be to disable all of the plugins — including WP_Maintenance_mode. Your solution won’t work for me.
It would have been nice if you’d at least included a link to how to put a site into maintenance mode without a plugin.

A very nice plugin indeed.
But be aware!
Suppose you put your site in Maintenance Mode with this plugin and you are going to update WordPress.
At some point in the update process you will still get the standard WordPress ’Maintenance message (’Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance. Check back in a minute.’). After WordPress is done updating, the Maintenance Mode page from the plugin returns.
I think that this is the case with most of these Maintenance plugins.

Yes. You should deactivate and delete the plugins that you don’t intend to use anytime soon.

Hi there. Looking for some help, please. I put my site into maintenance mode using these instructions, but now I can’t get out of it. I don’t have a direct WordPress log in, I made the site in WordPress through the host site. And now I can’t edit the site at all.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Super easy to set up, love it. However, it looks great on desktop but a mess on mobile. It supposed to be mobile responsive??? Am I missing something? Thanks

I’m a wordpress designer and developer and many times I have had to find quick solutions to problems at short notices from customers. Today was one of them. No it will put your site in maintenance mode for as long as you want. You will have to turn it off when you want to resume normal operation.

This is great but it is better to have a separate cloned server like a staging server where you can put all your tests and not to worry about putting your website offline
