WordPress 5.9 Beta kom för några dagar sedan, och den förväntas släppas den 25 januari 2022. Det blir den första stora releasen 2022 och kommer att innehålla många utvalda funktioner och förbättringar.

Full Site Editing
WordPress 5.9 kommer att bygga vidare på de funktioner för edit av webbplatser som först introducerades i WordPress 5.8 tidigare i år.
Den här kommande utgåvan lägger till många fler funktioner för att redigera sites. Dessa nya funktioner gör det enklare att editera din WordPress theme utan någon kod så att you kan skapa en website med en unik custom design.
Ändå kommer full Site Editing endast att vara tillgänglig för teman som stöder den här utvalda funktionen.
New Site-wide Blocks
WordPress 5.9 kommer att introducera 10 new block som är gjorda specifikt för full site editing och som är location under kategorin ”Theme”.

Tips: Blocken i Site Editor kan också användas i ett post eller en page i WordPress om det behövs.
Add to Styling för hela siten
En annan viktig funktion i Site Editor är möjligheten att skapa new styles för ditt theme som kommer att tillämpas på hela din site. Klicka bara på ikonen Styling högst upp till höger på vyn när du redigerar ett post eller en page.
Härifrån kan du ändra typografi och färger på din website.
När du är klar kan du välja att save dessa ändringar för enskilda templates, template-delar eller som en global stil för hela your website.
Ändra blockets styling
Med Site Editor kan du också ändra stilarna för enskilda block som används på din website.
Klicka bara på knappen Styling och välj sedan Block. Du kommer att se en lista med block som du kan edit och customize.
This allows you to set styles for individual blocks across your website. Instance, you can change button colors to matcha your brand colors, change heading font sizes, and more.
Ett nytt sätt att add to navigationsmenyer
WordPress 5.9 introducerar ett new sätt att edit navigations menyer.
First, you may notice that the ”Menu” link has now changed to Navigation Menus.
Om du använder ett theme som stöds kan du helt enkelt add to en navigation menu title här.
För att faktiskt edit navigations menyn och add items till den, kan du använda den nya Navigation Menu block i site editor.
Det nya blocket för navigationsmenyer allow you to easily create navigation menus, add new links, adjust colors, spacing, alignment, and more.
New standardtema Twenty Twenty-Two
Eftersom WordPress 5.9 kommer att vara den första stora utgåvan av det kommande året, kommer den att levereras med ett helt nytt standardtema som heter Twenty Twenty-Two.
Det nya standardtemat drar nytta av alla de coola funktioner som finns tillgängliga i den nya Site Editor.
Det är utformat för att vara det mest flexibla standardtemat för WordPress någonsin och ger användarna enorm control över alla aspekter av designen.
Twenty Twenty-Two utvald en djärv men minimalistisk design med Source Serif Pro font för headings.
Temat kommer också med ett gäng färdiga mönster som du kan använda i Site Editor eller Block Editor när du skriver content.
Även om de utvalda funktionerna för Full Site Editing är spännande, är de fortfarande beroende av your WordPress theme.

Förbättringar av Block Editor i WordPress 5.9

Flytta sektioner utan ansträngning
Användarna kan nu flytta sections från List View i toolbaren. Det är bara att clicka på ett objekt och flytta det upp och ner.
This allows you to easily jump to different parts of the content and move them around so you can quickly readjust your layout.
Navigation Block
Blocket navigation i Site Editor kan även användas i dina WordPress-poster och pages. Detta allow you att manuellt skapa navigationsmenyer i dina artiklar eller landing pages.
You kan till exempel använda den för att skapa en innehållsförteckning med links till olika area i en artikel.
Bättre sociala icons och knappar
Med tidigare versioner av WordPress var det lite svårt att komma åt kontroller av parent- och child-blocken när man arbetade med sociala icons och knappar.
WordPress 5.9 kommer att göra det enklare genom att allow child block att använda parent blockets toolbar.
I blocket headings allow you nu att välja en heading-nivå från en vertikal dropdown-meny. Du har också fler alternativ för typografi, design, marginal och avstånd för dina head.
Rich URL Previews i Block Editor
Tidigare, när du hoverade muspekaren över en länk i post editor, såg du bara URL:en. WordPress 5.9 kommer nu att hämta och visa rich URL previews för links i post editor.
Det finns många andra förbättringar av enskilda block i block editor. Alltihop förbättrar användarnas upplevelse genom att erbjuda fler dimensioner, avstånd, typografi och andra tools.
Välj språk under login
Om du har installerat flera språk på din website i WordPress kommer användarna nu att kunna välja det språk de föredrar på vyn för login.
Förändringar under huven
WordPress 5.9 kommer också att medföra många förändringar för utvecklare att utforska och använda i sina egna teman, tillägg och projekt.
Följare är några av dessa förändringar under huven:
- WordPress core PHP Test Suite kommer nu att stödja PHPUnit 8.x via PHPUnit Polyfills-biblioteket (Se detaljer)

Unless your theme changed the location, you should have the option under Appearance>Settings>Site Identity.

Hi Team,
I had read few blogs where they mentioned that WordPress 5.9 will come up with the solutions for improving Core Web Vitals which happens to be an important aspect when it comes to the SEO. You have not mentioned it though. Are they really working on it?
Moreover, if we use blocks to design the site rather than the builders like Elementor or WP bakery, would It speed up the site?

While base WordPress could be improved for core web vitals, with the number of ways that a WordPress site can be used, there is no guarantee every site will see any change.
For blocks vs page builders, we do not have a comparison at the moment.

If you wanted to separate the design from WordPress, you could look into headless WordPress for specifically a coded solution. For most users, if you are worried about the speed of your site we recommend using a CDN.

The changes in WP (e.g. the “site-wide” styles) are making child themes more and more redundant. This will make it easier for themes and plugins to be updated, I think.

WP for me has been a tough nut to crack. Primarily because I enjoy raw code. However more and more people/businesses enjoy the CMS idea of WP and others. So, I am trying to learn WP and develop a product line for those entities. That being said I am really looking forward to this new rollout.
I think the best item for me is the changes in design. Particularly the ”site-wide” styles. And overall it seems like it is an upgrade that provides more intricate control over the entire build procedure. Can’t wait to give it a go!

The new features I like most are the new blocks, the new navigation block and the option to choose language during log-in.
Will it be possible, to show (in the navigation) more than one category list? In my projects, I will usually offer at least two categories (taxonomies): Country, Fields of Business.

You can certainly add multiple categories to your menu, if your theme has a specific feature that lists the categories, you would want to check with your theme’s support to see if that is an option.

do these new features (especially navigation) come with responsive edits. The current standard blocks are severely lacking in mobile/tablet customisation.

You should be able to use the preview option in your post editor to see how the blocks will display on mobile and tablet, your theme would be a large determining factor in how your blocks display on your site. If you want very specific responsive edits, you would likely want to look into a plugin to add that functionality.

That would depend on the classic editor plugin rather than WordPress itself and the plugin is planned to be supported through 2022 so it should still work. If it has been some time since you used the block editor, the 5.9 update may be a good time to test the block editor out to see if it fits your needs
