För inte så länge sedan pratade vi om WordPress 3.0, men av utvecklarna att döma är vi på väg mot WordPress 3.1. Av omfattningen att döma gillar vi att den nya versionen kommer ut någon gång i mitten av december 2010. Det finns några mycket spännande funktioner som kommer att läggas till, så låt oss komma igång direkt.
Funktioner i WordPress 3.1
Funktionen fryses den 15 oktober, så de funktioner vi listar under är inte på något sätt slutförda. Nya funktioner kan läggas till under tiden, och vissa funktioner kanske inte läggs till. Men här är den allmänna omfattningen av vad som kommer:
Intern Linking
Detta är en av de mest efterlängtade funktionerna för denna 3.1-version. Vi vet alla hur viktigt det är med intern linking för sökmotorsoptimering i WordPress. Den här nya funktionen kommer att allow användare att söka igenom sina befintliga blogginlägg och add links i innehållet. En knapp skulle ingå i panelen för att skriva post, precis som den för externa länkar, där du kommer att se en popup som gillar knappen för inkludering av media. Det kommer att tillåta dig att söka efter inlägg, eller bläddra i en lista över befintligt innehåll efter titel, datum, författare etc, och välja det för inkludering. Det skulle tillåta dig att enter den text du ville ha link, eller skulle använda postens titel som standard, kanske. (Mycket spännande för den här utvalda funktionen)
Admin Bar
Om du har använt en WordPress.com blogg, så känner du redan till detta. I WordPress 3.1 kommer ett administrationsfält att add to för att ansluta back-end till front-end på din blogg. Den här funktionen kommer att vara mest användbar för personer som installerar Multisite, men den kommer också att vara användbar för användare av enskilda inlägg eftersom den ger 1-klicks åtkomst till dashpanelen, formuläret för nya inlägg etc. Detta kommer att vara starkt inspirerat av WordPress.com reviderade admin bar och den ursprungliga Viper007Bond admin bar plugin. Enligt Matt Mullenweg är detta det ”första steget mot en front-end editor”.
Note: det fanns ett visst motstånd mot att detta skulle vara i core snarare än ett plugin. En kompromiss om att göra det valfritt diskuterades. Så det kommer troligen att vara något som behöver aktiveras genom ditt temas functions.php-fil (det skulle vara vår gissning). Vi kommer att hålla you updated när denna release kommer closer.
Ajaxifierade admin-vyer
Detta var en del av projektet Google Summer of Code 2010 för WordPress som utfördes av ”scribu”. Tanken med denna funktion är att aktivera sortering på de flesta Column och ajaxifiera sortering, search och sidonumrering. Det introducerar också en new stil för sidonumrering för edit.php pages i wp back-end. Till exempel på din edit posts page när du har massor av post, kräver sidonumrering några clicks för att komma till sidan 10. Denna new version kommer att göra det enklare. Jane Wells kallade det för en sidonumrering i Hulu-stil. Tanken är att du ska kunna enter sidnumret i fältet, och den page kommer att hämtas istället för att du ska behöva clicka dig igenom sidonumreringens pilar.
Separat dashboard för nätverk
För närvarande är dashboarden för multi-site rörig och förvirrande. Den här utvalda funktionen kommer att separera nätverksinstrumentpanelen från instrumentpanelen för sites. Ett alternativ att skapa en personlig dashboard för att ersätta den globala dashboarden för de användare som har ett account men ingen site i multi-site övervägdes också. Denna funktion kan komma att skjutas upp till WordPress 3.2 på grund av att den är så komplex och tidskrävande.
Quick Press Template Tag
I din WordPress dashboard finns det en fantastisk liten section för Quick Posting, även känd som Quick Press. This new template tag will allow it to be used on the front end of your site for making quick posts. Det skulle vara en snygg funktion att ha för inloggade editors.
Förbättrat användargränssnitt för search och browsing av installerade themes
Målet är att byta ut det nuvarande användargränssnittet (UI) mot WordPress.com-gränssnittet eftersom det är mycket mer användarvänligt. Det skulle vara mycket användbart för webbplatser som har många installerade teman, särskilt användare av multi-site som allmänt tenderar att ha massor av teman installerade.
Templates för inlägg / Styling av inlägg
Med WordPress som blir mer av ett CMS, är detta en välbehövlig funktion som kommer att släppas i WordPress 3.1. Det skulle allow designers / utvecklare att skapa custom post templates och stilar. Målet med denna funktion är att allow denoting a post as a certain style/type/kind. Några exempel på stilar är notis, gallery, link, quote. This will allow themes to style these posts accordingly. Denna idé liknar fast)klistrat inlägg, men tar det till en ytterligare nivå eftersom du nu kan ha många unikt utformade inlägg. Under är exemplet UI, men återigen är detta inte den slutliga bilden. Det är bara så här det kan se ut i WordPress 3.1.
Avancerade sökningar efter taxonomi
Det här är inte för Beginnare, men vi tror att utvecklare kommer att bli glada över det här. Den här funktionen gör det enklare att runna avancerade sökningar. Just nu finns det till exempel inget sätt att fråga efter posts som finns i kategorin ”bilar” men som saknar taggen ”BMW”. Detta gör att användare måste skapa komplexa kategorisystem för att simulera flera taxonomier. Detta kommer att göra sortering av inlägg och andra post typer mycket enkelt för utvecklare som vill driva WordPress bortom dess limiter.
Underhåll
Gillar alltid, det kommer att finnas buggar fixar och förbättringar av gränssnittet. Det kommer också att finnas några små fixar till API:et för Custom Post Types. En särskild note: Detta kommer att vara den sista versionen som stöder PHP 4. WordPress 3.2 kommer endast att stödja PHP 5.2 och ovan. Om din server ej använder PHP 5.2, är det dags att börja tjata på dem om det. Om du inte vet vilken version av PHP din server använder, kan du downloada det plugin som heter Health Check. Detta plugin kommer att låta dig veta vilken version av PHP din server kör på.
Schema för WordPress 3.1
WordPress 3.1 är planerad att släppas i mitten av december, helst senast den 15 december, så att helgdagarna inte stör lanseringen. Datumen ser ut så här:
15 oktober – Feature freeze; inga nya funktioner add to efter denna punkt, så att testning kan börja på en stabil produkt (inklusive användbarhetstestning av nya funktioner).
1 november – Primär kodfrysning; eventuella sista justeringar baserade på testning efter utvald funktion bör vara slutförda nu och fokus flyttas till att fixa buggar för att få till en stabil beta.
15 november – Betaperioden är över; från och med nu inga fler förbättringar, bara fixade buggar.
1 december – String freeze; översättare jublar.
15 december – WordPress 3.1 släpps

Internal linking, finally! Im loving this update, been working in it all morning… freaked out when the post excerpts and custom fields were missing (theyre still there, in screen options, phew!)
Im interested in the post templates/post styles. Was able to activate it in my theme, but not exactly sure how to get it working. Would love a simple tutorial on simple ways to use this, if you have it in the works.

I’m using 3.1 now and I like it. I turn off the admin bar when I view my website, but keep it on in the backend. It gets in the way of clicking the website name in the upper left corner when you hover over the admin bar, but I can get used to it.
My favorite feature, by far, is the internal linking. Blogger was doing that for years and I missed it when I moved to WordPress. It’s in now, so that’s good!

No doubt that internal linking will be something that I appreciate on a more regular basis than many of the other features but it sounds like it will be a big update. I’m also anxious to get my hands on the network piece of this one as I manage many WP sites. Just curious if you know when the final 3.1 will be released or what the adjusted target is? I’m on a RC right now that’s a little loopy and am anxious for development to be wrapped up.

I am just hoping it’s going to be relatively simple to remove a certain feature from the theme if it’s not going to be used. I believe WP shouldn’t try integrating features which won’t be generic into the core and instead should provide such enhancements/functionality as plugins. I have always loved WP for it’s simplicity and I sincerely hope the core remains like that (i.e. to the point).
But what I am going to be looking forward to is going to be the advanced taxonomy queries you have mentioned. Right now you can’t do much complex queries using the API pertaining to taxonomies.

Hi, thanks for sharing. One thing I don’t fully understand about internal linking. Let’s say I update the permalink of post A that I had linked from within post B. Does the link inside B get automatically updated?

If you choose it via the internal linking feature, then yes it should get updated… Although we highly recommend that you don’t change permalinks and if you do… there is a 301 redirect, so you don’t lose any backlinks. There are plugins that lets you do that.

I’m happy to see that internal linking is being built-in and like @Harsh Agrawal said above, that particular function already exists with the Insights plugin. It would be nice if eventually they could build in the other features that the Insights plugin offers (Google search, Wikipedia search, Flickr search, etc.)

Oh, and also: the picture you have of an admin bar plugin is not really much like the one that we’re talking about doing, as your picture looks like it was based on a pre-2.7 installation of WordPress. We haven’t had those navigational sections since 2008. You should look at the one on wordpress.com, that’s more what we’re thinking, to help improve the multisite experience.

Please be careful in posting things like this. These features are not guaranteed to be included in 3.1, they are simply the features we are working on in the 3.1 development cycle. Inclusion will not be determined until we see where they all are at the feature freeze date. If any of them are not complete enough to be included in core yet, they will not be in 3.1. There may also be other reasons for features not being included based on other considerations that come up between now and then. Making a list like this in the first week of the dev cycle is to give us a plan for the work, not a plan for the release itself.

Ofcourse we are aware that some features might not make in which is why we added above all the features the disclaimer that the feature freeze is far away, and it means that some of these features might not make in depending on progress.

I’m very excited with the new features. I wish for WP to evolve to a plattform where i as a non-programmer can easily style all my posts, pages etc. and even create new page and post templates or even the whole wp theme without having to know code. (using a REAL WYSIWYG editor) (and i’m well aware that there is software like artisteer – but that doesn’t do what i need and i need a REAL wysiwyg – artisteer is not)

I believe this idea is inspired from Insight WordPress plugin…
Though they are adding more new feature..I hope it doesn’t mean they need more memory and resources (Hosting)

Insights plugin, yes, but the internal linking feature also has some similarities to the excellent ”Microkid’s Related Posts” plugin. (I have wished in the past that I could mash these two together.) It would be great to have the ability to insert an internal link with the link text being the title of the link target.
I really hope that on multisite installs, there will be checkbox options in this feature for ”search this blog” vs. ”search network.”
Use case: a network has one blog that is a shared directory, property listing, book or product catalog. ”Search network” would allow authors from various blogs in the network to link to a common post for the item under discussion.
In this case, you’d want to make sure you could include custom post types in addition just ”Post” type content. That should probably be another search option (checkboxes to include/exclude various post-types), even on single-site installs.

A great set of improvements, something you’d expect from a major release really.
The contextual linking to other posts is great, provided that it dynamically updates if you were to move the post (perhaps give it a new slug, or alter permalink structure?). Anyone know if this is the case?
”Post Templates / Post Styles” also a very powerful addition. Thanks for keeping us informed as always WPB!
