How to Find the Best Gutenberg-Friendly Themes

Gutenberg is the WordPress block editor that was introduced in WordPress 5.0.

The top WordPress theme shops then updated their themes to be compatible with the current WordPress editor and the former classic editor.

Tip: You need to have self-hosted WordPress.org, not WordPress.com, in order to use these themes. If you are unsure about the difference, take a look at our article on WordPress.org vs. WordPress.com.

To create a WordPress website and install a Gutenberg-friendly theme, you will first need a domain name and web hosting. A domain name is your site’s address on the web, like wpbeginner.com or google.com. Web hosting is the storage for all your website files.

We recommend using Bluehost for your web hosting. They are an officially recommended WordPress host.

What specifications does such a template have to meet in order to be suitable for Gutenberg?

    • WPBeginner Support

The theme would need to be designed with Gutenberg in mind, there are still some older themes that are for the old editor.

Thanks, I assumed that all the ones in the official repository are suitable for Gutenberg. So I have to focus on it better next time.

  2. Moinuddin Waheed

Most modern themes are good for Gutenberg as Gutenberg is the new crush for wordpress community.
As I can see and predict, Gutenberg based block editors will take over the page builders due to their efficiency and speed.
Though it will take time for Gutenberg to make as friendly as page builders are but it will do in the future.

  3. Valerie Way

Hello and thank you for the comprehensive themes collection! It’s great that we already have a decent choice of themes for the new editor and that yet many others continue to appear. This gives hope to think that everyone will be able to find a suitable theme for their site and that the transition to Gutenberg thus will be as smooth as possible for most of the users.

This is such an epic list of Gutenberg themes! I love everything.

I’m still waiting to see the uptake rate as more people upgrade to Gutenberg and I can’t wait to see more of these themes used to create cool creative layouts, too.
