Uwaga: Wersję beta można wypróbować na twoim komputerze lub w środowisku przejściowym za pomocą wtyczki WordPress Beta Tester.
Oficjalne wydanie wersji beta nastąpi 12 maja, co oznacza, że do czasu ostatecznego wydania WordPress 4.8 nie zostaną utworzone żadne nowe funkcje. Niektóre funkcje w wersji beta mogą jednak nie trafić do ostatecznego wydania.
Edytor wizualny w widżecie tekstowym
Domyślnie WordPress jest dostarczany z widżetem tekstowym. Widżet ten zawiera proste pole tekstowe, w którym można dodać tekst i kod HTML.
Początkujący użytkownicy, którzy nie są zaznajomieni z HTML, nie mogli dodawać odnośników ani używać podstawowego formatowania w widżecie tekstowym. Zmieni się to w WordPress 4.8.
Nowy widżet tekstowy jest wyposażony w prosty edytor wizualny i tekstowy. Podobny do tego, który można zobaczyć na ekranie edycji wpisu.
Pozwoli to początkującym użytkownikom na łatwe dodawanie odnośników, tworzenie list lub pogrubianie / kursywę tekstu bez pisania kodu HTML.
Nowy widżet Imagely
W tej chwili, jeśli chcesz wyświetlić obrazek w panelu bocznym WordPress, będziesz musiał napisać HTML lub użyć wtyczki.
WordPress 4.8 wprowadzi widżet obrazu, który pozwoli użytkownikom na łatwe dodawanie obrazków do panelu bocznego. Będzie można przesłać obrazek bezpośrednio z widżetu lub wybrać dowolny obrazek z biblioteki multimediów WordPress.
Kliknięcie wybranego obrazka otworzy wyskakujące okienko ładowania multimediów WordPress, w którym użytkownicy mogą przesłać lub wybrać obrazek. Po wstawieniu obrazka użytkownicy będą mogli zobaczyć podgląd obrazu w obszarze widżetu.
Nowy widżet filmu
Podobnie jak widżet obrazków, WordPress 4.8 wprowadzi również widżet filmów. Umożliwi on użytkownikom łatwe przesyłanie filmów na panel boczny lub wyświetlanie dowolnego filmu z YouTube, Vimeo lub innego dostawcy oEmbed.
Uwaga: zalecamy, aby nigdy nie przesyłać filmów na twoją witrynę WordPress. Zamiast tego powinieneś skorzystać z dostawcy hostingu filmów, takiego jak YouTube lub Vimeo. Wystarczy kliknąć przycisk „Wybierz film” w widżecie, a następnie kliknąć odnośnik „Wstaw z adresu URL”.
Dodaj adres URL filmu, który chcesz osadzać, a następnie kliknij przycisk „Dodaj do widżetu”. Wyskakujące okienko ładowania multimediów zniknie, a w widżecie pojawi się podgląd miniaturki twojego filmu.
Widżet WordPress Aktualności i wydarzenia na kokpicie
WordPress 4.8 wprowadzi również widżet WordPress Events and News dashboard. Pojawi się on na twojej stronie kokpitu WordPress i będzie zawierał informacje o nowościach WordPress, a także wydarzeniach WordPress w pobliżu twojej lokalizacji. Zastąpi on starszy widżet wiadomości WordPress, który wyświetlał tylko wiadomości WordPress.
Jeśli masz wielu użytkowników na twojej witrynie internetowej, widżet pokaże im wydarzenia na podstawie ich lokalizacji. Automatycznie spróbuje wykryć lokalizację użytkownika, wysyłając jego strefę czasową, ustawienia regionalne i adres IP do api.wordpress.org.

You mention users should not upload videos directly to their site but use a video host. Does this apply in all situations, or would it sometimes be better performance-wise if the site has a high bandwidth server or CDN to self-help extremely short videos i.e. under 20MB?

It is not just about bandwidth and performance. It is also about user experience. Your server may have the resources to serve the videos but your users may have slower or unreliable internet, older browser, no flash, compatibility issues with your video format, etc. Third party video hosting services such as YouTube are extremely good at optimizing user experience and serve your videos even on slow connections.

This will be a welcome addition but a lot of people may unknowingly strip out current edits from their existing widgets. Like the issue with the post editor, when you use the visual editor you can strip existing code (like a div tag for example). If you have the visual editor on, will this strip HTML like the post editor does?

Meh. Upgrades that may muck up text widgets on existing sites scares me. For new sites/users I can see the appreciation for the changes though.

Will the new Image, Text and Video Widgets be a new way to add advertisements in sidebars? It would seem to be that this would be an ideal use for them.

These are good improvements, but even some established plugins, such as the Black Studio TinyMCE Widget, have more features that enable the same tools found in the WP editor to insert images, videos, links, etc. Why didn’t WordPress think of that? And is „Hello, Dolly” really necessary? Does anyone use that?

with the new video widget, will it allow for the &rel=0 to hide related videos?
I assume Olathe container will be size responsive?
Would also be great if it allowed for lazy load behind a custom thumbnail image.

I welcome those improvements to WordPress! I’m sure many of us have been wondering why those wasn’t built in WP, so no need now for extra plugins that slows down the sites

Great improvements but it would be great if The New Image Widget could have the option (input) to add URL link to the image as well. Most of the images in sidebar need to be linked to some external website.

When you insert an image in WordPress, the modal has link options along with title, caption, link target, css classes. So it’s super easy

I’m afraid I won’t get much excited about any of these updates until they improve the core functionality of the post editor. I find it quite flaky and the fact that it’s impossible to add code without a plugin is a major problem.
But having said that, the new widgets look very cool.
